Rodolfo Hernandez

Rodolfo Hernandez-Gutierrez, MD

After completing his residency at the University of Miami (UM) as Chief Resident in 1988, Dr. Hernandez went on to become adjunct Professor at UM. During that time, he entered private practice and became the Medical Director for various psychiatric hospitals throughout Miami-Dade County. He was a psychiatrist in private practice for 24 years and developed 15 psychiatric offices between Miami and St. Petersburgh.

In May 1990, Dr. Hernandez joined the team as a staff psychiatrist, providing outpatient and in‐patient services for American Biodyne’s, Miami area population, later becoming Medical Director for the South Florida area, including West Palm Beach, Broward, and Dade County. During this time, he assisted in developing new programs and staffing psychiatric personnel, developing community relations, and serving the psychiatric needs in this area.

In 1992, he founded Psychcare, a Managed Behavioral Health Organization and Employee Assistance Program, fully accredited with NCQA and URAC. As a full-service behavioral healthcare company, Psychcare, provided behavioral healthcare solutions for employers, health plans, and government agencies specializing in creating quality, integrated work/life, EAP, behavioral, medical and pharmacy programs for Commercial, Medicare and Medicaid products. Dr. Hernandez served as Chief Medical Officer for 20 years, and later continued as CEO.

Dr. Hernandez was instrumental in developing the growth of the company throughout the State of Florida and into the Southeast Region of the United States, eventually covering all 67 counties, managing more than 3.5 million Floridians’ behavioral health needs across various stakeholders such as AHCA, DCF, and health plans like Humana, Aetna, Molina, and Provider Service Networks (PSNs), and various provider service networks throughout the State of Florida such as Prestige, Better Health and Clear Health Alliance.

After 30 years in the managed care field and teaming up with his son Daniel Hernandez, they set their sights into further expanding and growing the Psychcare footprint. Together they developed a strategic partnership with Beacon Health Strategies, ultimately forming a regional powerhouse managing membership in 13 states with nearly 14 million lives under coverage.

Throughout his career, Dr. Hernandez has always maintained his medical license and DEA active, as well as served in the Board of Eli Lilly as Advisor, American Biodyne, became the President of the National Behavioral Consortium, as well as a Full Board Member of Beacon Health Strategies out of Boston, MA. In his new role as Strategic Advisor for OOBNOW, Dr. Hernandez will be providing clinical guidance and expertise to the team.
